     Sorting IE “Favorites” using Firefox

A method of sorting Microsoft Internet Explorer “Favorites” by using Firefox.

(For those without a sort option in IE organize bookmarks.)

Firefox can be acquired here:  http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

First - just to be on the safe side - create a “temp” folder.

Then in that “temp” folder create two other folders: “IE” and “FF”.

From within IE  - file/export  -  save the current “Favorites” contents in the folder: “IE”.

Then from within Firefox:  file/import  -  import the “IE / Favorites”.

(Firefox automatically keeps all of the “Favorites” in sorted order.)

Then  - still within Firefox  -  bookmarks / organize favorites / file/ export  - export the “Favorites” to the folder: “FF”.

Now back to “IE” and delete all of the “Favorites”.   This can either be done within “IE” one folder at a time, or find the correct folder under “documents and settings” ... titled: “favorites”, and delete all of the sub-folders at once.

Once the current “Favorites” are gone, then still within “IE” file/import and direct the import to the html file in the “FF” folder.

Presto: “SORTED” Favorites.

As a final touch: rename the Favorites folder:  “….from IE....” to something more meaningful, like “Personal”.
